At Aston Martin, we create some of the world’s most distinctive and desirable high-performance vehicles. We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer – Body Closures to take technical ownership of closures design and delivery, ensuring our systems achieve the exceptional standards of quality, performance and craftsmanship synonymous with the Aston Martin brand.

The Role

As Lead Engineer – Body Closures, you will be responsible for the specification, development and delivery of body closures, ensuring compatibility across all relevant system attributes and performance targets. Working across internal engineering teams and our supplier network, you will lead the delivery of closures commodities within programme quality, cost and timing requirements.

You will own closures components, systems and features from concept through to production, leading the commodity strategy and ensuring robust engineering solutions are delivered throughout the product creation process.

Your role will include leading failure mode prevention activities, including DFMEA, QHR, lessons learned and design standards, alongside defining functional targets and validation plans through virtual and physical development phases. You will lead cross-functional design reviews, manage prototype and production build activities, and drive the resolution of complex engineering issues.

Working closely with Concept, Design, Manufacturing, CAE and supplier teams, you will provide technical input into surface compatibility and manufacturing feasibility while overseeing the creation and release of 3D and 2D CAD data, including GD&T and closures archetypes. As the releasing engineer, you will also take responsibility for the integrity and management of engineering data within the PLM system.

You will bring strong technical judgement and structured problem-solving capability, developing contingency plans where programme challenges arise across cost, timing or DVP delivery. You will also benchmark competitor solutions and emerging technologies, translating your findings into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders and confidently presenting technical information at all levels, including CTO level.

Throughout prototype, pre-production and production phases, you will support the investigation and resolution of engineering issues while maintaining high-quality documentation, including FESO deliverables, and ensuring cross-functional alignment throughout the vehicle development lifecycle.

About You

You will bring a minimum of five years’ experience within automotive body closures, with extensive experience of product creation and engineering delivery from concept through to launch within a Body in White or closures environment. A relevant degree is desirable, although significant equivalent industry experience will also be considered.

You will have strong knowledge of legislative and certification requirements relating to body closures, together with a thorough understanding of automotive development processes including specifications, engineering release, concern management, containment, gateways and sign-off.

Your technical expertise will include manufacturing processes associated with Body in White, closures and mechanisms, including metal pressings, castings, extrusions and mechanisms technology. You will understand how CAE analysis informs design decisions and have practical experience of material selection, gap and flush analysis, fixing methodologies, perceived quality requirements and engineering design standards.

Experience with DFMEA, virtual builds and QHR methodologies will be important, alongside excellent attention to detail, confident decision-making and strong data management skills. You will be an enthusiastic and resilient technical leader who can motivate others, communicate with impact and maintain focus as programme priorities evolve.
