Vehicle Engineering Leader
Job no: 512506
Work type: Full Time - Permanent
Location: Gaydon, Warwickshire
Categories: Vehicle Engineering
Behind every Aston Martin is a team bringing thousands of individual engineering decisions together to create one exceptional vehicle.
As a Vehicle Engineering Leader, you’ll be right at the heart of that journey. Working closely with the Vehicle Engineering Manager, you’ll help guide our vehicle programmes through key stages of development, bringing together people, technical insight and data to make sure our vehicles deliver the performance, quality and character our customers expect.
Your role will give you a broad view across whole-vehicle engineering, spanning vehicle attributes, virtual series, prototype vehicles and design verification. You’ll play an active role in technical and vehicle integration discussions, bringing together the right information and recommendations to support decisions at key programme checkpoints and gateways. When complex integration challenges arise across areas such as design, architecture, attributes, testing or prototype builds, you’ll help lead the resolution, working collaboratively with specialists from across the business.
You will bring together attribute target sets throughout each programme, reporting status and progress to the engineering team. You will maintain the pedigree of the golden and attribute vehicles used to support Vehicle Evaluation Team Assessments.
You will lead system and vehicle DVP activities, supporting the VEM in ensuring robustness is achieved at the right time and through the right means. Together with the system engineering teams, you will collate and report the overall DVP status to achieve the target timing and quality. You will lead fleet hardware and software pedigree ensuring fitness to test is achieved and spares, consumables requirements are centralised for commodity teams to order.
Along with the Vehicle Engineering manager you will define the required prototype vehicle builds, vehicle specification and bridging part definition, ensuring the vehicles are the correct pedigree for the required development activities. You will support prototype and production releases to ensure engineering integrity, attribute performance and correct quantities of spares are ordered.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring experience in whole-vehicle engineering, development or testing, together with an understanding of complex systems integration and engineering problem-solving. You’ll be comfortable working across different functions, building strong relationships and communicating technical information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
An engineering degree or equivalent experience is essential, while experience in vehicle attribute assessment, CAD or Teamcenter would be an advantage. A master’s degree in mechanical, aerospace or a related engineering discipline would also be welcomed, but isn’t essential.
More than anything, we’re looking for someone who enjoys connecting the detail with the bigger picture. You’ll be curious, collaborative and confident taking ownership, with the judgement to challenge when needed and the ability to bring people together around the right technical solution.
In return, you’ll gain broad exposure across vehicle development, working alongside teams spanning engineering, attributes, design, product marketing, strategy, concept engineering and programme management, with opportunities to continue developing your career within Vehicle Engineering.
If you’re excited by the opportunity to help bring together the engineering behind an Aston Martin, we’d love to hear from you.
