Department Overview
The Performance, Efficiency and Driveability (PED) function is responsible for the definition, development, delivery and verification of the vehicle attributes that shape every Aston Martin. Working across all vehicle derivatives, the team ensures that performance, efficiency and driveability targets are delivered consistently at vehicle, system and component level, both virtually and physically, while preserving the unique character and DNA of the brand.
The Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Performance Attribute Engineer to join the PED team at Aston Martin’s Gaydon facility. This role supports the delivery of the Performance element of the PED attribute across all current and future vehicle programmes. The position involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to define targets, deliver key performance indicators and ensure robust verification throughout the product development lifecycle. Occasional overseas travel will be required to support business needs.
Responsibilities
The Performance Attribute Engineer will support the senior leadership within the PED function to deliver performance KPIs at vehicle, system and component level across all Aston Martin vehicle derivatives. Working closely with direct stakeholder networks, including commodity teams, attribute functions and wider business areas, the role enables the definition, delivery and future development of the Performance attribute.
The role includes defining and cascading attribute targets, managing input parameter KPIs for systems and components, and establishing effective indirect stakeholder networks across supporting interfaces such as Electrical and Software Technology teams and the supplier base. In collaboration with the PED Manager and the Advanced Product Creation team, the engineer will help scope and deliver research and benchmarking activities that support the development of future performance standards and specifications.
Responsibility extends to leading the definition, development, delivery and verification of the Performance attribute within the wider PED framework, ensuring strong alignment between subjective assessments and objective performance metrics. This includes defining attribute requirements, tolerance bands and tuning ranges for performance‑influencing systems and components, as well as supporting the development and application of PED toolsets such as acceleration metrics, braking performance, reference track lap time simulation and power and torque deployment strategies.
Under guidance from PED leadership, the role involves defining and executing verification plans at vehicle, system and component level, both virtually and physically, within agreed cost, timing and quality constraints. The engineer will support the definition and cascade of Design Verification Plans, review voice‑of‑the‑customer feedback to protect Aston Martin brand attributes, and contribute to DFMEA, DVP and system feature reviews to ensure appropriate performance protection and test readiness.
The position also contributes to PED budget planning, supports issue tracking and resolution, defines methodologies and standards for the Performance attribute, and provides clear reporting against programme gateway requirements. The role plays an active part in the PED sign‑off process across all Aston Martin vehicle programmes.
Experience and Qualifications
Candidates should hold an engineering degree or equivalent and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of delivering vehicle‑level Performance, Efficiency and Driveability outcomes within complex development programmes. Strong knowledge of PED KPIs, sound commercial awareness and experience delivering projects through formal product development frameworks are essential. Experience across high‑volume and low‑volume vehicle programmes, as well as familiarity with European proving grounds and facilities, is expected.
The role requires demonstrated experience with PED development tools, testing methods and data analysis techniques, including vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition systems such as VBOX, Atlas, Vector and CAN‑based tools. Experience with simulation environments such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, HyperWorks or equivalent is important, alongside strong analytical capability and the ability to clearly communicate performance metrics to a wide range of stakeholders. High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required.
Experience with statistical analysis methodologies, such as Six Sigma, is advantageous, as is the ability to communicate complex technical ideas succinctly and make balanced decisions when managing competing requirements.
Skills and Behaviours
This role suits an individual who is energetic, driven and focused on delivering challenging engineering projects to demanding timescales, supported by innovation and customer focus. The successful candidate will be well organised and methodical, with a strong attention to detail, and able to operate effectively both independently and within collaborative teams.
Adaptability, self‑motivation and resilience are key, alongside the confidence to influence, lead technical discussions and represent the Performance attribute within senior‑level forums. The ability to remain focused under pressure and to act as an ambassador for a world‑class luxury automotive brand is essential.
