SET Project Engineer - Underframe

Apply now Job no: 512004
Work type: Full Time - Permanent
Location: Gaydon, Warwickshire
Categories: Body Engineering

At Aston Martin Lagonda, every detail matters. From concept through to production, our engineering teams ensure that every component contributes to the performance, quality and craftsmanship expected of our vehicles.

We are looking for a Commodity Project Engineer to take ownership of body components and play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across our vehicle programmes.

The Opportunity

This role sits at the heart of product delivery, where you will lead the design and development of body commodities to meet performance, quality, cost and timing targets. You will work closely with internal teams and suppliers, ensuring all elements come together to deliver robust and effective solutions.

You will be involved throughout the full vehicle lifecycle, from early concept phases through to production, helping to shape designs and ensure they are fully validated and ready for delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will take ownership of body components, systems or features, leading their development and ensuring alignment with overall vehicle requirements. You will define and drive commodity strategy to meet financial targets, quality standards and programme timing.

You will coordinate activities to prevent failure modes, including DFMEA, QHR and lessons learned, and provide feedback to design teams to ensure surface compatibility. You will lead design activities, define validation plans and support both virtual and physical development phases.

Working across teams, you will lead cross-functional design reviews, manage build phases and support issue resolution. You will also manage the creation and release of engineering data, including 3D and 2D CAD models with GD&T, ensuring consistency across platforms.

You will engage with suppliers to assess manufacturing feasibility and support the delivery of components. You will also benchmark competitor solutions, identifying best-in-class approaches and presenting findings to senior stakeholders.

As the releasing engineer, you will be responsible for managing data within PLM systems and ensuring high-quality engineering documentation is created and maintained. You will support issue investigation across prototype, pre-production and production phases, using structured problem-solving approaches to resolve challenges.

About You

You will have experience in project engineering, with strong knowledge relevant to body or similar engineering functions. You understand the product development process from concept through to launch, including specifications, releasing processes, gateways and sign-off requirements.

You will bring knowledge of manufacturing processes such as pressings, castings or extrusions, along with an understanding of how CAE analysis supports design decisions. Experience in material selection, gap and flush, and achieving quality targets through design is important.

You are detail-focused and confident working with data, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex challenges. You are able to develop contingency plans and support delivery across cost, timing and validation requirements.

You are an effective communicator, comfortable presenting technical information at all levels, and able to work collaboratively across teams. You bring energy, resilience and a passion for delivering high-quality products, along with the ability to motivate others and adapt to changing priorities.

A degree in engineering is desirable, although equivalent experience will be considered.
