About the role
Aston Martin is looking for a SET Project Engineer – Lighting to join the Body Engineering team in Gaydon. This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced lighting systems for some of the most distinctive vehicles in the automotive industry, supporting projects from early concept through to production.
What you will do
In this role you will take ownership of lighting components and systems, ensuring they meet design, performance, quality, cost and timing targets throughout the development process. You will work closely with internal engineering teams as well as manufacturing, procurement and quality functions, while also collaborating with suppliers to deliver high-quality solutions.
You will lead the design and development of lighting commodities, coordinate cross-functional design reviews and support the definition of validation plans across virtual and physical development phases. The role also involves supporting prototype and production builds, resolving technical issues and ensuring engineering documentation and data are accurately maintained within relevant systems.
You will also work with suppliers to understand manufacturing feasibility, support technical reviews and benchmark industry solutions to ensure competitive and high-quality engineering outcomes.
Technical requirements
Candidates should have experience in project engineering within an automotive or product development environment, delivering lighting components or systems from concept through to production. An understanding of automotive development processes such as specification definition, design release, engineering gateways and validation activities is important.
You should have knowledge of component manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, bonding, painting / metallisation and understand how design decisions impact manufacturing feasibility. Experience interpreting CAE analysis to support engineering decisions would be beneficial.
Familiarity with engineering tools and processes such as CAD data management, PLM systems and GD&T is valuable, along with experience supporting design documentation, validation planning and engineering change processes. Experience working with quality tools such as DFMEA and virtual build activities would also be advantageous.
What we are looking for
The successful candidate will be organised, resilient and adaptable, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and communicating technical information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management.
A passion for engineering and delivering high-quality products will help you succeed in this role.
What you will gain
You will join a small, collaborative team working on a variety of products and technologies. The role offers strong visibility across the business and the opportunity to see how your work contributes directly to the development of Aston Martin vehicles and future programmes.
Additional information
The role is based in Gaydon with hybrid working and a minimum of three days on site. Occasional travel and evening working may be required for supplier visits and vehicle testing; therefore a full driving licence is required.
