Vehicle Engineering Manager - Concepts Advanced Engineering

Apply now Job no: 511877
Work type: Full Time - Permanent
Location: Gaydon, Warwickshire
Categories: Vehicle Engineering

We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Vehicle Engineering Manager to lead our Concepts & Advanced Engineering activities. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for shaping future vehicle programmes at their earliest and most influential stages, translating bold ideas into technically robust, feasible and competitive vehicle concepts. This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of innovation and delivery, driving the definition of vehicle architectures and influencing the future direction of our product portfolio.

The Opportunity

As Vehicle Engineering Manager, you will lead early-phase vehicle development from concept through to programme readiness. You will be responsible for defining vehicle architectures, establishing package layouts, and setting clear targets for mass, cost and performance. Working at the front end of the product lifecycle, you will ensure that new concepts are not only innovative, but also achievable within real-world engineering, manufacturing and regulatory constraints.

You will work cross-functionally with teams across Product Marketing, Design, Attributes, CAE, APQP and wider programme teams, ensuring alignment between product vision and engineering delivery. Your role will be central in bridging creative design intent with technical feasibility.

Concept & Advanced Engineering

You will drive the development of advanced vehicle concepts, leading studies into new technologies, materials and system solutions. You will translate high-level product requirements into clear, structured vehicle-level targets, ensuring all concepts are underpinned by sound engineering principles and robust analysis.

A key part of your role will be balancing innovation with practicality, ensuring concepts are cost-effective, manufacturable and aligned with long-term strategic goals. You will also support the transition of these concepts into formal vehicle programmes, ensuring continuity and technical integrity.

Technical Leadership

Acting as the vehicle-level technical authority during concept and pre-development phases, you will guide engineering decisions through structured trade-off studies and system-level optimisation. You will champion best practice engineering while fostering an environment that encourages creativity and new thinking.

You will be confident in influencing and aligning senior stakeholders, ensuring that technical direction is clearly understood and supported across the organisation.

Team Leadership & Culture

You will lead and develop a matrix team of vehicle and advanced engineering specialists, creating a collaborative and high-performing environment. You will mentor engineers, support their development, and drive a culture focused on accountability, innovation and delivery.

Strategy & Continuous Improvement

Beyond programme delivery, you will contribute to the long-term engineering and technology roadmap, identifying opportunities for platform reuse, modularity and efficiency. You will also play a key role in improving concept development processes, tools and methodologies, supporting the adoption of digitalisation and model-based systems engineering approaches where appropriate.

About You

You will be degree qualified in Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering, with significant experience in vehicle engineering, ideally including exposure to concept or advanced engineering phases. You will have a strong track record of engineering leadership, with the ability to guide teams and influence outcomes in complex, cross-functional environments.

You will bring a deep understanding of vehicle architecture, packaging, structures and system integration, along with experience of balancing mass, cost and performance trade-offs. A broad knowledge of vehicle systems, including body, chassis, powertrain, thermal and electrical, is essential, alongside familiarity with CAE, simulation and concept evaluation tools.

You are an effective communicator with strong stakeholder management skills, capable of presenting complex technical information clearly and confidently. You combine strategic thinking with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset, and bring a genuine passion for innovation and early-phase problem solving.

Experience with electrified vehicles, modular platforms, or systems engineering approaches would be advantageous, as would an understanding of regulatory and homologation requirements.

Additional Information

This role requires flexibility to support key programme activities and collaboration across multiple teams and locations.
