The Role
As our Platform Engineering Lead, you will:
- Lead and inspire a talented team of Platform Engineers and DBAs, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Take ownership of our Windows server estate, across both on-premise and cloud environments.
- Oversee our multi-cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Alibaba), ensuring seamless integration, performance and security.
- Champion modernisation by introducing cutting-edge tools, automation and cloud-native solutions.
- Work closely with Enterprise Architecture to ensure security, resilience and scalability are embedded across everything we do.
- Shape the roadmap for platform engineering, delivering projects that reduce costs, enhance efficiency and improve user experience.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for an experienced technical leader who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to inspire and guide a high-performing team. You will have a strong track record in senior technical roles, where you’ve been responsible for solving complex problems and driving forward critical IT initiatives. Your background will include extensive experience of managing multi-cloud environments, particularly across Azure, AWS and Alibaba, and you will be confident in using modern tools such as Terraform and Azure DevOps to automate, optimise and innovate.
A detailed knowledge of Windows Server infrastructure, both on-premise and in the cloud, is essential, together with hands-on experience of services such as DNS, DHCP, and identity management. You will be highly proficient with virtualisation technologies including VMware and Hyper-V, ensuring environments are resilient, efficient and secure. Alongside this, you will bring a clear understanding of networking and connectivity, physical hardware maintenance, and domain and certificate management, ensuring that systems are always reliable and robust.
Equally important is your ability to lead people. We want someone who has successfully built and developed technical teams, introduced new ways of working, and embedded best practice across IT operations. You should be passionate about fostering collaboration, breaking down silos, and encouraging continuous improvement. With strong problem-solving skills and a practical mindset, you will thrive in an environment where you can identify opportunities, drive change, and deliver innovative solutions that enable the business to achieve its goals.
