We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to take ownership of the concept, design, delivery, and integration of steering systems—including Steering Gears and Steering Columns—across our vehicle platforms. This role is essential to ensuring our systems meet evolving vehicle requirements and continue to push the boundaries of performance, safety, and innovation.
Central to the role is the responsibility to create, develop, and maintain technical documentation for both existing and future steering systems. You’ll lead the creation and upkeep of Foundation Steering System DFMEAs, DVPs, design rules, and internal standards. You’ll also drive new vehicle concept requirements by providing expert guidance and solutions for component targets, packaging strategies, and technology choices.
Your week will be varied and dynamic. You’ll take part in technical reviews, workload planning, and regular catch-ups with Vehicle Line Managers. Some days may involve more administrative tasks, while others will see you presenting technical challenges and solutions in senior engineering forums or supporting vehicle dynamics teams during trials and tuning phases. You’ll collaborate closely with programme teams, purchasing, finance, durability, and the wider engineering community, as well as external suppliers.
Travel will be required to supplier sites and other Aston Martin locations, including potential trips abroad.
To be considered for this role, the most important requirement is proven experience with Electric Power Steering system sizing and features definition. This expertise is vital to ensure technical accuracy, system performance, and successful integration across vehicle platforms. You’ll also need a strong track record in steering system component delivery and an engineering degree in a relevant discipline. Familiarity with chassis suspension systems, rear-wheel steer technologies, and product creation systems is beneficial but not essential.
You should be confident using Microsoft Office and ideally have experience with VIS Mockup, and Teamcenter. If you’re not yet proficient, we offer training and support to help you build confidence with these tools.
This role offers exceptional exposure across all levels of the business. You’ll be part of a team that’s not only technically strong but also deeply collaborative—always willing to help each other out, share knowledge, and support learning. There’s always something new to work on, and you’ll have the chance to develop new skills and gain insight into different commodities and systems. It’s a space where curiosity is encouraged and growth is part of the journey.
We’re looking for someone who communicates clearly, embraces change, and works well with others. You’ll need strong time management, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively. A growth mindset, openness to feedback, and a willingness to support others are key traits for success.
