Lead Engineer - HV System Test & Validation

Job Purpose:

To setup and run Network & HV Power Integration Rig for all Powertrain Electrification components and systems to achieve AML targets through to production on AML programmes.

As Lead Engineer - HV Systems Integration Test & Validation, your responsibilities will include:

  • Function: Facilitate the setup of HV component and system test station and implement robust safety mechanisms by controlling HV (1500V) Power devices
  • Test Automation: Development of automation system around various HV test stations of low power
  • FMEA: Failure Mode documentation to identify the areas of test bed improvement
  • HV Safety: Ensure system is implemented with HV safety mechanisms in place
  • Documentation: Generate documentation on the test facility including Schematics, Safety Mechanisms , Spares
  • Data Validity: Co-ordinate discussion with test engineers to establish the validity of test data and safety mechanisms around component or system under test
  • Maintenance Schedule: Implement a maintenance schedule for the test equipment
  • Upgrades & Improvements: Communicate with suppliers on improvements and upgrades to the test system
  • Issue Tracker: Manage a testbed issue tracker and lead discussions to identify effective solutions
  • Test Implementation:
    • Generate safe & robust test process for the various HV components & systems to accomplish the results needed
    • Testbed setup to implement tests on Powertrain Electrification components and system
    • Liaise with component/system test engineer to understand scope of test and deliver parts needed for test – HV and LV cables, Cooling hoses, etc
    • Maintain “Permit to Work” documentation on test station
    • Ensure safety of operator and persons around test
  • Work cross-functionally with other R&D departments to develop efficient hybrid and electric vehicle systems testing procedures to achieve vehicle requirements on-time and on-budget
  • Main point of contact for Powertrain Electrification component and system test deployment across various programmes
  • Resolution of all Powertrain Electrification component and system testing issues on specific programmes
  • Coordinate testing facility comparison studies and evaluate RFQ responses to influence management decisions
  • Train, coach and present technical information and share the knowledge throughout AML
  •  

The successful candidate will demonstrate technical expertise and competence in a range of test disciplines and be able to take responsibility for HV testbed operation to facilitate testing of Powertrain Electrification component and system . The essential areas of previous experience required to undertake this role include:

  • Good knowledge and experience of Automotive Networks (CAN, Ethernet, among others)
  • Good knowledge and experience of using High Voltage (1500V) High Power Electronic Power Supplies – ACDC and DCDC
  • Delivery of Testing Automation Systems
  • Good knowledge of HV Safety and Processes
  • Delivery of Powertrain Electrification system testing for hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Background in powertrain test operations and development
  • Hands on experience of working with low voltage and high voltage vehicle systems
  • Delivery of Powertrain Electrification system testing for high performance hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Understanding of hybrid and electric powertrain system functionalities and attributes at vehicle, system and component levels
  • Automotive powertrain testing knowledge, including:
  • Automotive battery, eMotor, inverter, DCDC converter and on-board charging system technology
  • Proficiency in use of powertrain calibration and networking tools
  • On-vehicle power distribution systems
  • High voltage energy management
  • Experience with Labcar builds, rig design and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) systems
  • Experience with electrical testbed systems (e.g. Kratzer, Bitrode, AVL, etc)
  • Use of test equipment to support electrical and electronic system testing
  • Experience in training staff in safe working on High Voltage systems
  • Strong programming capabilities (MATLAB/Simulink, C++)
  • Experience with Test Automation Systems (Vector, Matlab, Labview, etc)
  • Leading engagement with engineering partners and test facilities
  • Driving product development issues to a resolution
  • Responsibility in Formula Student/SAE team
  • Engineering Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical and/or related field
  • High Voltage Senior Authorised Person Qualification
