Job Purpose:

Responsible for Vehicle Dynamics attribute excellence delivery, starting from robust approach in target cascading and deployment, planning, subjective evaluation, and monitoring status through Objective characterization. Work within a team of Vehicle Dynamics Engineers, leading timely project target setting, securing project deadlines while taking actions in improving the DVP efficiency and robustness. Creator and responsible for Vehicle Dynamics roadmaps, vehicle testing procedure standardization and objective measurements with subjective correlation. To serve as a senior point of reference for all vehicle dynamics decisions for Aston Martin when required.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deliver new platform definition and development for Vehicle Dynamics attributes, for multiple projects and associated derivatives
  • Independently lead vehicle dynamics projects in context of the wider Vehicle Development Program from concept to sign-off and into production.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to all projects as required and mentor junior members of the team.
  • Interact at expert level with cross-functional peers to further attribute excellence:  project meetings, drive events, technical forums.
  • Ensure a high level of documentation and reporting, both in concept and testing phases, securing clear communication within the Vehicle Dynamics team and the Chassis & Vehicle Dynamics department and with Chief, Program Managers and Directors.
  • Investigate vehicle dynamics issues arising during development and promote prompt resolution plan.
  • Define and cascade vehicle dynamics specific test requirements, sensors, and data acquisition instrumentation.
  • Independently conduct advanced research and prepare methodologies to enhanced group capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with the CAE, Chassis and Controls teams to create and develop control system algorithms in conjunction with SW & HW suppliers.
  • Work alongside the CAE Team in the development phase, by providing reliable and useful experimental and supplier data for model correlation and improvements.
  • Support CAE team in developing, maintaining, and advance the Vehicle Performance and Chassis simulation processes and procedures.
  • Lead Vehicle dynamics objective and subjective assessment.
  • Support the Senior Manager – Vehicle Dynamics and the rest of senior management in the coordination and efficient utilization of resources associated to the platform and to create a motivated, empowered workforce
  • Continue to improve Vehicle Dynamics practices and routines, while coaching young members and promoting technical knowhow and expertise within the team / to wider relevant engineering functions.
  • Support planning and developing of skills and capabilities necessary for the team to deliver all core functions

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience in Vehicle Dynamics Engineering within the Automotive industry
  • Hands-on experience in vehicle testing planning and budgeting, preparation, coordination, recovery planning
  • Strong project management experience in Vehicle Dynamics
  • Strong understanding of vehicle-level targets to engineering specification cascade process
  • Full understanding of K&C data and full vehicle KPIs
  • Data-driven engineering approach and process-improvement focus
  • Experience in instrumentation set-up
  • Experience in objective manoeuvres for handling, steering, ride characterization
  • Proven capability of data post-processing analysis and objective guideline preparation
  • Material and report creation to present project status and gap to target
  • Vehicle subjective assessment and track driving skills
  • High Level Control Strategy requirements creation
  • Strong experience in system calibration
  • Hands-on experience in modelling and integration of Chassis and Powertrain control systems for Full Vehicle analysis
  • Experience in Chassis Virtual Development process with CAE tools and CAE correlation against testing data
  • Comprehension of technical innovations and concept assessment
  • Engineering Degree in appropriate discipline
  • Excellent understanding of Vehicle Dynamics and Control Systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of chassis hardware systems
  • Strong Competence with Instrumentation and testing equipment
  • Strong Competence is using data acquisition and post-processing tools
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Driving skills/permits
  • Experience in computational vehicle dynamics on ADAMS CAR and VI-Grade CRT or equivalent
