The role requires the use of FEA tools supported by hand calculations and a strong engineering background to ensure the vehicle meets its performance, mass and cost targets. This involves leading the analysis of a range of load cases including crashworthiness, NVH, durability, stiffness and strength.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Analysis of a broad range of finite element models and providing engineering solutions to ensure designs meet the required legal and internal requirements
Construction of finite element analysis models within existing naming, numbering and model construction processes
Assist in target setting process, including development of Design Standards
Work alongside commodity owners and CAD teams to evolve designs by giving advice on geometry as well as material and fixing selection
Present results at a range of levels within the organisation
The primary internal relationships for this role will be the main customers of the CAE team, namely Body Structures and Safety. Beyond this there are regular interactions with a large range of other teams including Programme, NVH, Chassis, Vehicle Dynamics, Manufacturing as well as all Body Engineering departments. Externally the role is likely to involve contact with component suppliers and test facilities (including materials, component and full vehicle crash test centres)
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree educated or equivalent
Excellent understanding of Mechanical Engineering theory
Basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis theory
Excellent understanding of Finite Element Analysis theory
Experience using the following CAE solvers; Dyna Explicit, DYNA Implicit and Optistruct
Experience using the following CAE pre- and post-processors; Hyperworks, Oasys and ANSA
Experience in the automotive industry with a broad knowledge of engineering design and manufacturing, particularly relating to Body Structures and Safety
Experience in CAE of automotive crashworthiness, structural stiffness and strength, NVH and durability
Knowledge of materials used in the high-performance automotive or aerospace sectors, e.g. aluminium alloys and carbon composites
Knowledge of world safety standards and test procedures
Experience of managing lesser experienced CAE Engineers
Basic knowledge of CAD tools (preferably NX)
