Job Purpose:

To build and maintain Labcar to current build phase level and undertake development and sign off testing to Aston Martin Engineering Test Specifications.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build, design, and develop LABCAR systems, integrating DUT’s according to specified requirements.
  • Construct and modify Labcar frames to accommodate harnesses and components, ensuring proper fit and functionality.
  • Interact with cross functional teams for BOM preparation, put the BOM together and support OTG (open to Go) meetings and some planning.
  • Production of prototype wiring harnesses and electro-mechanical assemblies throughout the vehicle development Programme.
  • Assemble harnesses and components, modifying wiring and connectors as necessary to integrate with Labcar systems.
  • Conduct Labcar testing as required for mainstream development activities, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Develop and document test specifications as needed for various projects.
  • Analyze test data and prepare engineering reports based on findings, identifying areas for improvement or optimization.
  • Plan and prepare LABCAR setup and validation activities according to the latest software release plan, ensuring compliance with project timelines.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts to address testing problems both on-site and remotely, employing robust problem-solving techniques.
  • Maintain Labcar hardware and software to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with evolving requirements.
  • Debugging and troubleshooting of electrical circuits and solving the issues based on Design parameters.
  • Diagnose and root cause a wide variety of electrical issues which arise from evolving development across harness, ECUs, and software.
  • Vehicle fault analysis – use of diagnostic software toolsets, schematics, and specifications to identify and resolve vehicle and lab-car based issues.                        
  • Analyze Vehicle network architecture, logical and physical schematics.
  • Vehicle wiring harness routing and supported for test infrastructure development.  requirements for setting up test benches.

It’s expected at some early build phases testing may be performed at Gaydon to familiarize with a new product/platform. Some points also to support the Gaydon test team with Vehicle testing during peak testing periods.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Assemble harness and components, rework wiring and connectors to adapt and fix Labcar harness.
  • Practical experience of working with vehicle harness diagrams and system schematics
  • Practical experience of using vehicle diagnostic toolsets
  • Experience with LABCAR design, development, Integration of DUT’s as per requirement.
  • Experience in cross functional teams’ interaction for BOM preparation and Supplier management.
  • Exposure on custom component design, signal mapping, wiring harness design based on ECU.
  • Experienced in test system harness design.
  • Ideally automotive experience at an OEM, Tier 1, subcontractor.
  • Experience of electrical harness rework.
  • Experience of fault finding and processes.
  • Knowledge of Vector tools like CANoe, CANalyzer, CANApe
  • Experience in carrying out electrical testing, collecting data and creating reports.
  • Experience in Analyzing requirements for setting up test benches.
  • Experience with integration HiL systems with LABCAR for dynamic functions validation.
  • NVQ Level 3 light vehicle maintenance and repair or equivalent qualification is typically required, although advanced education such as an associate degree or vocational qualification in automotive engineering or related field is advantageous.
  • Level 3 IMI EV
  • Full UK Driving License.
