Purpose of the Role:

To be responsible for the on-time delivery of the different commodities identified as key areas in the High Voltage battery systems in which Aston Martin is responsible for the in-house development such as modules, busbars, contactors, and harnesses.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

As the Energy Storage Lead, you will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Define and own the strategy towards system engineering for the HV Batteries across AML platforms.
  • Identify industry trends and steer AML into the right technical solutions for requirement management.
  • Identify industry trends for Battery Management Systems and their suitability for different applications for AML.
  • Lead a team of engineers and external suppliers to deliver the HV Battery and BMS on time into production, including but not limited to:
    • Technical reference for the identified commodities.
    • Quality: Identify and contain potential quality concerns using engineering quality systems (FMEAs, Robustness Studies).
    • Cost: Work with the Principal Engineer, challenging cost targets and working practices to deliver the optimum solution for AML.
    • Function: Drive a culture of robust System Design Specification to define system functional targets; deliver components to achieve targets; support Test & Development team with DVP planning & execution; ensure supplier tests are completed on time.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the HV Battery design and requirement definition, including BMS.
  • Work cross-functionally with other R&D departments to align strategies and resources to meet programme needs.
  • Acquire and evaluate competitor benchmark information to influence concept creation in early project phases.
  • Coordinate system and supplier comparison studies and evaluate RFQ responses to influence management decisions.
  • Train, coach, and present technical information, sharing knowledge throughout AML.
  • Manage key relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Essential Experience:

  • Previous experience in Systems Engineering for HV Batteries, both design and validation from early stages of research to production.
  • Previous experience in Battery Management Systems, both design and validation from early stages of research to production.
  • Knowledge of all relevant vehicle legislation and certification requirements for automotive high voltage battery packs and associated HV systems.
  • Knowledge of project life cycle management from early R&D to series production.
  • Hands-on experience working with LV and HV systems.
  • Leadership of product development projects to production.
  • Tracking and planning of engineering, tooling, and piece costs.
  • Experience working with Academia in R&D projects.
  • Proficiency in Simulink and Vector Toolset.

Preferred Experience:

  • High Voltage Automotive Battery Systems development for high-performance hybrid and/or electric vehicles.
  • Understanding of hybrid and electric powertrain system functionalities and attributes at vehicle, system, and component levels.
  • Automotive powertrain electrical, electronic, and mechanical integration knowledge.
  • Experience with CAD (NX, CATIA).
  • Formal releasing procedures and design change management.
  • Previous management experience.
