Design Engineer - Pressure Charging

Job Purpose:

Specification, design, and technical ownership of pressure charging system hardware.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • 3D concept design generation of pressure charging system hardware
  • Generate system specification, and be responsible for delivery of hardware that meets system targets
  • Creation of detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of pressure charging system hardware
  • Definition of pressure charging system BOM, driven by CAD structure
  • Chair FMEA meetings, ensure development team alignment on DVP and test activities
  • Liaise with interfacing system owners and package teams ensuring compatibility
  • Work closely with component suppliers ensuring cost, mass and functional optimisation
  • Support procurement team during supplier nomination process
  • Manage and maintain pressure charging system CAD assembly within the whole engine CAD buck
  • Troubleshooting and concern resolution during build and test phases
  • Work closely with development team to ensure functional performance and durability is meeting expectations
  • Work closely with simulation team to ensure good model correlation
  • Releasing for prototype procurement and production launch

Qualification & Experience:

  • Significant experience in the design and development of pressure charging components in gasoline engines
  • Sizing of pressure charging system components
  • Behaviour of materials at high temperatures, component thermal protection, component temperature limits
  • Simulation techniques used in the definition and validation of pressure charging systems
  • Test methods used in the validation of pressure charging systems
  • Experience in Siemens NX CAD software
  • Experience of using Teamcenter for data management
  • Generation of 2D and 3D NX CAD in line with corporate standards
  • Ability to analyse and validate supplier data to identify issues
  • Working across functional teams (design, development, procurement, build and test) to deliver viable design solutions
  • Volume manufacturing processes – casting, machining, fabrication, forming, injection moulding
  • Managed concern resolution
  • BOM definition and maintenance
  • Creation of system DFMEAs and DVPs
  • Driving optimisation through analysis
  • Appreciation of test instrumentation and data analysis
  • Working within an OEM environment
  • Formal releasing procedures and design change management
  • Supporting test teams with problem solving/concern resolution
  • Tracking and planning of engineering, tooling and piece costs
  • Support of production sourcing activities
  • Support of production launch
  • Assembly line and general design for manufacture considerations
  • In-vehicle engine bay conditions and requirements
  • Engineering process and a working knowledge of industry standard tool sets.
  • Industry standard dyno and vehicle validation procedures
  • Developing design standards
  • Teamcenter PLM
  • Developing and documenting benchmark data
  • Applicable legislation and certification requirements
  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
