Execute materials development tests to ensure that the colour & materials content meets durability targets
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Check, prepare & test interior and exterior trim materials and related components, following the correct test standards, methods and procedures.
Ensure tests are planned and executed and in a timely manner, providing updates to other team members and line manager as required.
Record results, compile Laboratory reports, raise concerns, maintain test records.
Liaise with Commodity Owners & Colour and Materials Design and Commodity Teams, to obtain information about test samples.
To gain specialist knowledge in specific material and/or test technologies, to support departmental development activities.
Undertake Laboratory development activities.
To support the writing and update of AMES, AMETP & other Materials Development documents.
Ensure safe working practices are followed.
Qualification & Experience:
Experience in Automotive industry (experience within other engineering sectors will also be considered)
Experience of Laboratory testing.
Experience of running small / medium size projects
Prior experience of leading/supervising cross-functional projects or laboratory testing is desirable
HNC / HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Materials Engineering, Polymers Science, Chemistry or related subject
Degree in related Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
Full Driving License
Travel within UK and ROW as required
Practical laboratory techniques
Knowledge of 1 or more materials types (e.g. metals, polymers, coatings, textiles)
Good technical & manual skills
Good communication skills: Able to communicate ideas clearly & concisely
Good time management & organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple demands on time & priorities
Capability of working under pressure
Knowledge of Automotive test standards
Practical Problem Solving (AMPS, 8D, or similar)
A successful candidate must be able to learn quickly and integrate into a successful and dynamic team, offering strong character attributes as well as the necessary knowledge and experience above. The best candidate will be open-minded and lateral thinking in the face of stiff timing and product targets.
The successful candidate should be able to exhibit commitment to meet stretch targets. The candidate must be proactive, manage own tasks and trust their initiative with minimum supervision to produce results in a timely manner.
