Head of HV Powertrain Systems Design

The Drivetrain team within Powertrain is responsible for all design, mechanical & virtual development activities for Powertrain components

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for the team charged with design and integration of HV battery pack and HV systems for hybrid and electric vehicles across AML programs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

To manage the team responsible for:

  • 3D concept design generation of HV battery pack and HV systems hardware
  • Generation of system specification, and be responsible for delivery of hardware that meets system targets
  • Creation of detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings of HV battery pack and HV systems hardware
  • Lead the package integration of HV battery pack and HV systems
  • Tolerance studies
  • Definition of HV battery pack and HV systems BOM, driven by CAD structure

Qualification & Experience:

The essential areas of previous experience required to undertake this role include:

  • Engineering design team management experience
  • Design and development of HV battery pack and HV systems hardware for hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Understanding of hybrid and electric powertrain system functionalities and attributes at vehicle, system and component levels
  • Significant experience in Siemens NX CAD software
  • Experience of using Teamcenter for data management
  • Knowledge of relevant vehicle legislation and certification requirements for HV automotive battery packs and HV systems
  • HV battery pack and vehicle level testing (including crash)
  • Generation of 2D and 3D NX CAD in line with corporate standards
  • Simulation techniques used in the definition and validation of HV battery pack and HV systems hardware
  • Test methods used in the validation of HV battery pack and HV systems hardware
  • Ability to analyse and validate supplier data to identify issues
  • Working across functional teams (design, development, procurement, build and test) to deliver viable design solutions
  • Volume manufacturing processes – casting, machining, fabrication, forming, pipe and hose manufacture
  • Managed concern resolution
  • BOM definition and maintenance
  • Creation of system DFMEAs
  • Driving optimisation through analysis
  • Appreciation of test instrumentation and data analysis
  • Working within an OEM environment
  • Formal releasing procedures and design change management
  • Supporting test teams with problem solving
  • Tracking and planning of engineering, tooling and piece costs
  • Support of production sourcing activities
