Job Purpose:

The job holder will work, with the minimum of supervision, on the Concept Design, package and realisation of a variety of Exterior trim & lighting components & their boundary interfaces in order to suitably package vehicle deign to allow for finished detailed CAD designs to be produced. The role will also be the Lead CAD specialist within the team and uphold and maintain the team’s CAD standards, including advising & monitoring the CAD groups quality standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • CAD design and modelling of Exterior trim & vehicle packaging in Siemens NX
  • Develop detailed and robust technical concepts in 2D & 3D for exterior and lighting considering surrounding vehicle package, vehicle attributes, manufacturing process & cost
  • Lead the concept cross functional interface for exterior & lighting
  • Management of created CAD into Teamcenter ensuring all model attributes are completed to AML standards
  • Ensure models are compatible with surrounding environment and suitable for Engineering Release
  • Support virtual build phases
  • Preparation of detailed drawings to AML drafting standards may be required
  • Experience of component design for injection moulding, RRIM, pressings and extrusion, casting processes in various materials is important.
  • Experience of lighting packaging
  • Contribute to updates of Best Practice and Engineering Standards manuals
  • Knowledge and ability to work in concept phases of a vehicle program and be confident in developing master sections for vehicle hard points
  • Present technical detail in cross functional reviews in a clear and appropriate manor
  • Lead and co-ordinate a small team of CAD engineers either on site or off shore for larger, more complex assemblies
  • The post holder will undertake other duties as may be required to achieve the Company’s objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experienced NX user
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with Exterior trim or similar commodities & Vehicle packaging
  • Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing processes to create Exterior Trim components e.g. injection moulding, extrusion, pressings, castings, composites
  • Experience of leading component design within cross functional team.
  • Supplier interface experience.
  • Knowledge of Product Development cycle from concept to launch completion.
  • Excellent technical engineering background and a comprehensive knowledge of using calculation and analysis to drive design.
  • Knowledge of automotive quality tools and processes such as virtual builds
  • Knowledge of automotive development systems e.g. specification, releasing, concerns, containments, gateways and sign off documentation

The successful candidate may be required to achieve a level 3 driving permit for prototype vehicle testing.

Travel may be required within in Europe, US & rest of world to visit component suppliers or support vehicle testing.
