Job Purpose:
Manage the department and provide technical direction to active powertrain projects.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership across projects, trouble-shooting technical issues, driving changes when necessary
Liaison with external technical partners, challenging design direction and developing working relationship
Ensure strong cross functional working across internal Powertrain teams – Simulation, Test, Powertrain Systems, Calibration
Resource and headcount planning
Recruitment, training, team development through coaching and mentoring
Ensure the right resource is in place to support live projects
Approval of engineering releases
Support creation of project resource profiles and project costs
Support the Senior Manager with department strategic direction
Development of design processes
Qualification & Experience:
Solid, extensive and thorough of experience in engine and drivetrain design roles (typically this will be 15+ years)
Management of engineering design teams
Professional development of team members
Working across functional teams
Successful delivery of turbocharged gasoline engine projects to production
Volume manufacturing processes – casting, machining, fabrication, forming
Failure investigations and problem solving
Managed concern resolution
Managing and developing external engineering resource
Following and supporting a production launch
BOM management
Driving optimisation through analysis
Close collaboration with test teams, understanding instrumentation and data analysis
Working within an OEM environment
Formal releasing procedures and design change management
