Job Purpose:

Ensure package and interface compatibility between all powertrain commodities, vehicle interfaces, as well as ensure hardware is capable of legislative compliance in the appropriate markets.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead small project teams - internal and external
  • Maintain a design overview across engine and drivetrain systems ensuring compatibility
  • Maintain whole overview across powertrain systems – fuel, exhaust, cooling, electrification
  • Track package issues, liaise with functional teams and ensure resolutions are in place
  • Ensure high level attributes are met – package, weight, performance, cost
  • Ensure legislative compliance of the engine and drivetrain
  • Creation of 3D concept models and some detailed design schemes on Siemens NX
  • Define high level engine, drivetrain,  BOM
  • Checking and interrogation of design proposals from both internal and external designers
  • Work closely with analysis teams to optimise the systems
  • Analysis and interpretation of physical test results to correlate simulation and validate design function
  • Extensive liaison across multiple functions
  • Achieve target package clearances
  • Generation of concept decision matrices to support technology selection

Qualification & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hands-on powertrain design roles
  • Minimum 2 years on Siemens NX CAD software
  • Working across multiple functional teams in on OEM environment
  • Delivering hardware to achieve market compliance
  • Proven communication skills
  • Managing and developing external engineering resource
  • Leading small design teams
  • Following and supporting a production launch
  • BOM management
  • Close collaboration with test teams, understanding instrumentation and data analysis
  • Formal releasing procedures and design change management

Desirable Skills:

  • German language skills
  • Industry standard dyno and vehicle validation procedures
  • Developing design standards
  • Teamcentre PLM
