Project Manager - Transmission and Drivetrain

Job Purpose:

Be responsible for on-time delivery of all transmission and drivetrain projects across all AML programmes to cost and quality targets.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

As Commodity Leader, you will lead the operational activities relating to transmission and drivetrain programmes as follows:

  • Be the Project Manager of the Transmission and Drivetrain Commodity Team (R&D, Procurement, Finance/PCE, Logistics, Quality, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)
  • Aligning all timing plans inside the commodity and create master project plan for the commodity
  • Escalate when master plan is not aligned with vehicle programme plan
  • To ensure on-time delivery of engine projects to cost and quality targets (QCD)
  • To be responsible for the resolution and escalation of any QCD incompatibility
  • To manage and minute Commodity Team Meetings
  • Maintain ETRS and drive the commodity team to achieve on time design freezes and releases
  • To align and maintain up-to-date information from Platform Programme team to the Commodity team
  • Regularly align commercial and timing status with the Platform Programme Manager
  • To be the main point of contact for Transmission and Drivetrain Project status
  • Facilitate and enable cross functional working across the commodity team
  • Facilitate and coordinate decision making, by identifying the key issues within the commodity, pulling the right teams together to generate the required data
  • Provide status input for Gateway events
  • Coordinate resolution of engineering Concerns (using eCMS) in a timely fashion
  • Support definition of vehicle DVP requirements
  • Track commodity DVP progress, escalate high risk issues when investment is required before test completion
  • Coordinate the TDC activities
  • SOP/Launch/build support coordination via Commodity team

Qualification & Experience:

The essential areas of previous experience required to undertake this role include:

  • Leadership experience in project managing automotive OEM Transmission and Drivetrain projects from concept to production
  • Knowledge of relevant vehicle legislation and certification requirements
  • Technical understanding of Transmission and Drivetrain systems, including integrated electrification
  • Demonstrated experience in project managing cross-functional technical teams in automotive product development

Preferred areas of experience include:

  • Understanding of test methods
  • Understanding of design methods and quality processes
  • Understanding of hybrid and electric powertrain system functionalities
  • Understanding of driveline system dynamics, NVH and driveability issues
  • Driving product development issues to a resolution
  • Experience with CAD and CAE
  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Electronic and/or related field
