Assess the effect of dimensional variation of body and trim systems and components and optimise locators, tolerances and process designs to deliver the required whole-vehicle dimensional quality. Define and validate appropriate interface targets for all Interior and Exterior Design Surfaces to ensure DPQ attribute delivery and desensitisation to dimensional variation
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Responsible for the on-time completion of all DPQ attribute deliverables in line with programme timing and budgets.
Lead the definition of appropriate Optical Quality (OQ) targets (gap / flush / taper) aligned to programme DPQ attribute targets for all Interior and Exterior design surface interfaces.
Run cross-functional OQ meetings to identify and resolve all incompatibilities between DPQ targets and design surfaces, engineering CAD, locators, tolerances and/or manufacturing processes prior to the appropriate design checkpoint (CP).
Define and deliver plans for Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) studies throughout the Virtual Series incorporating OQ target validation, DPQ feasibility assessment, measurement point definition and ad hoc study requests.
Conduct DVA studies and report out results including predicted variation, contributor analysis and ‘what-if’ studies
Coordinate the activities of other AML DVA engineers and external engineering partners.
Plan and conduct Dimensional PQ benchmarking activities.
Identify and implement improvements to Dimensional Control and PQ processes, tools and standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
Proven experience of planning and delivering Dimensional Management and/or DVA activities from concept through to release of component and tooling designs
Defining and/or optimising locators for Automotive body-in-white or trim assembly processes
Working knowledge of GD&T – reviewing and interpreting tolerance information on component drawings and 3D CAD
