Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that AML is compliant in all areas of international trade operations following BREXIT and to ensure we can achieve and continue to meet all requirements of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status. You’ll establish and maintain relationships with HMRC and other international customs authorities, and work to establish systems to ensure our ongoing compliance with increasingly complex international trade and customs regulations. As well as a detailed understanding and experience of international trade policy and customs compliance, you’ll have experience of working with the Union Customs Code, Customs Freight Simplified Procedures and freight forwarding processes, and have an in-depth understanding of automotive or advanced manufacturing supply chain dynamics. This is a globally-focused role based in a headquarters environment, and you’ll therefore have a strong understanding of international trade compliance and processes.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
Develop and maintain internal processes for mapping and effectively managing trade and customs compliance risk across a large and complex supply chain, accounting for factors such as originating content.
Work with a range of areas across our business to establish sufficient processes to successfully obtain manage and maintain AEO status.
Managing tax & duty relief mechanisms, ensuring that we can effectively manage and exploit opportunities as they arise.
Take an active role in horizon scanning for future risk and opportunity areas in a rapidly evolving international trade environment, ensuring that we can take advantage of any future preferential trade arrangements as a UK entity whilst taking a proactive role in our planning for Brexit from a trade and customs perspective.
Develop close relationships with internal stakeholders across Tax, Supply Chain, Product Planning, Corporate Strategy, Government Affairs and Procurement.
Develop close relationships with external stakeholders including, but not limited to HMRC, Suppliers, EU and International Customs authorities, Customs Brokers and Managing Agents for our wide-ranging international sales network.
Qualifications and Experience:
Educated to degree level (or with equivalent experience) in a legal, business or financial subject
Formal trade policy or customs related qualifications (eg. Diploma in Customs Compliance) would be beneficial, complimented with significant working experience in a similar function.
Experience of Customs operations under simplified procedures.
Knowledge of global customs and import duty processes.
Strong experience in managing preferential origin within a complex supply chain environment.
Experience in managing customs agents and brokers
Experience in a Customs, Tax, Logistics or Supply Chain role within an automotive organisation.
Knowledge of customs legislation, regulations and experience of working with regulatory bodies.
International Trade / Customs qualification or an equivalent qualification will be advantageous
Legal or financial background with strong comprehension of international trade policy dynamics.
Strong IT skills using office tools (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
