The Metrology Team are responsible for selecting measurement methods, taking measurements and reporting measurement data for internal process control in tubs and body in white assembly and in support of issue investigation across all parts and assemblies internally and externally supplied.

JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to lead the analysis and reporting of the measurement data created to improve the communication and thereby improve the effectiveness of issue definition and resolution.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyse measurement data to facilitate the definition and resolution of engineering issues in a timely manner.
  • To do this by understanding the issue being observed, how this may be expressed in the dimensional relationships between parts, processes and the design specification and analysing these relationships to support greater understanding of the issue and/or resolving it and, if necessary, the need for more measurement data.
  • Collate and communicate the analysis. This will include reports that will enable clearer understanding the issue and comparison of the observed dimensional relationships versus specifications or proposed hypotheses. 
  • This role will require the individual to communicate the analyses they have undertaken to all levels of management.
  • Key relationships of this role will be across the Quality department including Technicians, Engineers, and Senior Managers. Also with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, Product Development and Suppliers.
  • The individual shall be responsible for working with other Aston Martin departments and with Suppliers to resolve quality issues.
  • Will need to comply with internal and external procedures to ensure satisfactory completion of both internal and external audits. Failure to comply with these procedures will result in non-conformance during audits.
  • Good understanding of Customer requirements in an ultra-high luxury brand. The role will require working between AML plants in both St Athan and Gaydon and will therefore require occasional travel between sites.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Background in Automotive Engineering metrology.
  • Engineering/Manufacturing/Metrology degree or equivalent is desirable.
  • Experience of handling of large quantities of complex data and therefore database management experience is required.
  • Experience of basic programming to support the analysis of measurement data and dimensional relationships (e.g., Excel Visual Basic, Python).
  • Application of complex problem resolution techniques (DMAIC, Green/Black Belt or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable evidence of teamworking.
  • Demonstrable evidence of taking complex data, analysing it, creating visualisation formats and successfully presenting/summarising to all levels of management.
  • Application of the principles of dimensional control.
  • Application of statistical process control analysis.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes for the creation of tub and body in white components.
  • Lean Six Sigma practitioner would be desirable.
  • Customer quality focus, commitment, and continuous improvement are essential behaviours.
  • Presentation and communication skills are essential
  • Mobile role requiring the individual to travel between sites and throughout the facility. Some elements of the role may require tasks to be completed on or near the production line.
