Job Purpose:

As Studio Engineer you will be expected to work closely with all disciplines within AML. This is a pivotal role; your task will be to bring Design and Engineering together, you must arbitrate and generate solutions to technically challenging areas on new product development. You will focus a cross-functional working team to this task. As an individual you should have an unusual blend of creativity, a keen eye for aesthetic quality, and an understanding of the technical limitations in order to achieve this. You will be expected to work effectively & flexibly within the team and be fully prepared to take command of interface issues in order to plan the most efficient and effective route to a resolution.     

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Support the Design Team with the generation and presentation of hardpoints.
  • Lead Clay interface activities.
  • Lead Alias interface activities.
  • Ensure studio interface activities with R&D.
  • Lead and work as a part of a highly motivated & committed team to deliver projects on time/on budget.
  • Mature chosen design theme model through Design Feasibility process to single theme selection/ PSC.
  • Liaise with R&D packaging team on Primary Hard point resolution
  • Liaise with R&D Application Engineers on Secondary Hard point resolution
  • Keep abreast of Design/ Materials/Technical/Other Trend developments within automotive/other industries.
  • Identify and benchmark relevant competitors, encouraging awareness of trends inside and outside the automotive industry.
  • Liaise with Tier 1/Tier 2/other suppliers to deliver world class products.
  • Identify Time/money/resource efficiencies/savings.
  • Understand intrinsic design values - Proportion, stance and surface.
  • Support Key Gateways and Studio Reviews.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Educated to Degree level/equivalent within an Engineering related discipline.
  • 5 years minimum experience in an OEM automotive Design Studio .
  • Significant experience/ proficiency in NX CAD modelling    
  • Ability to use some/all mentioned software packages.
  • Understanding of design process within automotive sectors, show car/production car experience.
  • Highly articulate, excellent communication skills.
  • Able to guide 3D digital/Physical model and Buck development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively alongside other Designers/Digital/Physical Modellers/Engineers.
