Job Purpose:

The Manufacturing Product Owner will investigate business needs and problems, capturing requirements for business improvements and translating these into solutions that align with business goals and strategy.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Developing the Business with information technology, challenging the status quo with innovative thinking and driving a step change strategy for manufacturing engineering.
  • In depth knowledge of the business services/products for this specific role, including:
    • Tecnomatix
    • Tecnomatix & TC Integration
    • Teamcenter Manufacturing
    • Teamcenter PLM
    • TC Visualisation (VisMockup)
    • NX CAD
  • Gathering and documenting requirements.
  • Aligning requirements with business goals.
  • Feasibility analysis and business case development.
  • Implementation planning.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Prince2 & Agile or similar.
  • ITIL4 Foundation
  • Business Analysis Diploma or equivalent
  • Management of Value

Role Overview:

Requirements Identification

  • Identify the stakeholders who need to participate in requirement gathering.
  • Develop a plan for requirements gathering
  • Select requirement gathering techniques (e.g. interviews, workshops business process documentation) relevant to the situation.
  • Translate information into a succinct and full list of requirements to share with the customer.
  • Work with the customer to prioritize requirements (for example, using the MoSCoW approach), and to define requirements for a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), if following an agile approach.
  • Get agreement to the prioritised set of requirements before starting implementation stage of the project.

Stakeholder Management, Communication & Training

  • Identify all stakeholders and gather information to understand needs, expectations and level of influence
  • Confidently engage with the project sponsor and other key stakeholders (e.g. users, suppliers, team members) to build commitment and encourage transparency and collaboration
  • Communicate progress regularly to stakeholders and manage expectations
  • Use a mix of communication styles and channels, prioritizing approaches which are faster and more effective in promoting shared understanding (e.g. face to face and visual management)
  • Assess the effectiveness of project communication, and vary your approach to meet the needs of different stakeholders and situations.
  • Train stakeholders in the use of the manufacturing tools, supporting all methods and training materials.

Information Analysis

  • Gather and integrates information from multiple sources
  • Assess the integrity of data identifying gaps, errors and potentially inaccurate data
  • Apply a variety of analytical methods to identify trends, risks and opportunities
  • Draw conclusions and report information using a variety of presentational techniques to convey key messages and findings.


  • Use a range of modeling techniques appropriate to your area of expertise (e.g. use cases or Unified Modeling Language (UML) for technical analysts, flowcharting for Process Analysts, net present value (NPV)/return on investment (ROI) for Commercial Analysts)
  • Identify the most appropriate modeling technique to achieve the business outcome
  • Utilize models to determine and communicate solutions and model “what if” scenarios
  • Review models with stakeholders, identify issues and resolve.

Business Case Development

  • Work with the project sponsor to understand the objectives and business benefits targeted by the project
  • Advise on options and cost of delivery
  • Contribute to the preparation of a business case setting out return on investment (ROI).

Planning and Organisation

  • Establish goals and identify priorities for the organization and the customer
  • Use project management principles to plan work
  • Identify resources and people needed to complete work and factor their availability into the plan
  • Make adjustments to priorities, timelines and approach when appropriate.
  • Communication and Knowledge Sharing
  • Get messages understood by adopting a wide range of styles, tools and techniques
  • Share information, good practice and expertise with others
  • Present sound and well-reasoned arguments to convince others

Through research and consultation with business stakeholders, you will build up a solid understanding of how the business is currently operating and carefully analyse the information to identify the best way to effect business change. They contribute to the development of business cases and to implementation planning.  You will support current and future vehicle programmes, helping to achieve AML’s virtual vehicle programme goals to reduce development time by reducing the number of iteration cycles and prototype phases; to increase product and process quality; to increase communication of product and process data among departments, and external engineering partners in addition to Integrating manufacturing engineering upstream with CAD and downstream to the shop floor.
