Chassis Systems are responsible for the design, engineering and releasing of the following systems and components: Wheels & tyres, foundation brakes, suspension, steering, subframes, springs & dampers, roll control, active chassis controls and powertrain mounting systems across all future and current car lines.
The role is for a Project Engineer to lead resolution of engineering issues for all chassis systems and components covering ongoing production and vehicles in service.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Lead the design, engineering & release of running changes to chassis components, including root cause investigation
and containment for issues affecting ongoing production build. Collaborate with Chassis CAD Engineers and Component Lead Engineers during prototype phases to develop a ‘rightfirst-time’ approach to reduce warranty and manufacturing issues and to build in quality by design.
Manage external suppliers to design and develop systems and components that meet specified requirements and
targets, and ensure parts are delivered on time and to the required quality standard. Responsible for approval of supplier led changes to production components (i.e. manufacturing, material or subsupplier changes).
Oversee supplier re-sourcing and cost down activities for current production components, ensuring that all necessary
validation and sign-off work is complete prior to introduction Work closely with Commodity Lead and Chassis Integration teams to enable swift and accurate deployment of
modified components and systems across all vehicle model lines. Work with Vehicle Attribute team to ensure any running changes meet performance targets.
Lead quality investigations for production and field warranty issues using 8D/PPS methodology.
Lead rig testing for component validation.
Qualification & Experience:
Extensive Chassis component engineering experience within an automotive OEM or automotive components supplier.
Good working knowledge of chassis components and their function with respect to attributes performance.
Excellent problem solving abilities and attention to detail
Experience of working in an automotive production environment
Good working knowledge of VIS Mockup and Teamcenter
Competent in all Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of MISSION or an equivalent Product Creation System such as GPDS, FPD
Component or system level rig testing experience preferred
Working knowledge of Siemens NX preferred but not essential
