The role requires a high level of responsibility to lead and coach cross functional teams to ensure that problem investigations follow a data driven logical path through to root cause. Responsible for making Key decisions on direction and actions to realise operational efficiencies and business cost reduction. Identification of key stake holders, allocation of responsibility and provide direction to deliver timely solutions.
It will include establishing any financial impact to the business to help focus and prioritise investigations, so Lead Engineers must be able to think strategically to ensure the right issues are addressed in the right time frame and order.
Key Responsibilities & Tasks:
Issue prioritization and allocation, coordinating and lead teams from R+D, Production, Man Eng and Quality.
Influence, negotiate with and drive progress of cross functional teams.
Reduce financial impact of field issues and in-house inefficiencies. Warranty spend items can typically be £500K to £1.5m as savings to the business (indicative numbers and certainly not limited to)
Lead Value Stream (VS) teams to drive robust containment of problems.
Lead, facilitate and coach Chronic and Complex problem resolution using AMPS techniques and processes.
Lead & facilitate data analysis within problem solving teams to enable accurate root cause determination.
Lead within VS team to drive timely issue resolution.
Present progress in feedback forums, typically PQR / Quality Committee up to CEO level
Manage 300call, significant build issues and flow-out – Key Impact KPI’s for customer and legislative requirements.
Follow 300call process as required and implement sweeps and eliminate flow-out (this can require worldwide Port and dealer network activity)
Collate and present in TRG/CCRG (Technical and critical review Committees) to explain detailed investigation outputs, which can result in product recall. These are legal compliance activities.
Qualification & Experience:
Engineering Degree educated or equivalent experience
In-depth problem-solving and data analysis experience.
Understanding of Quality Control systems
Previous experience in Quality and Production (automotive/OEM).
A knowledge of Quality tools and processes is essential.
Previous management experience within the Automotive industry
Familiar with Lean manufacturing methods and techniques, with a knowledge of Quality tools and processes.
Leadership skills, able to negotiate and influence others.
Facilitate the continuous development and training activities for FLT in the short and medium term.
Lead, review and support PPS and route cause analysis activities. Engage functions, where required, to generate effective permanent corrective actions.
Structured, organised and logical in approach.
Good interpersonal skills – ability to motivate and coach teams to achieve objectives.
