Job Purpose:

To be the Commodity Leader responsible for on-time delivery of all High Voltage (HV) battery packs for hybrid and electric vehicles across all AML programmes to cost and quality targets.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

As Commodity Leader (HV Battery Systems), you will lead the operational activities relating to HV battery packs in automotive applications, with the primary activities including:

  • To be the team leader for the HV Battery pack Commodity Team (R&D, Procurement, Finance/PCE, Logistics, Quality, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)
  • To ensure on-time delivery of HV Battery packs to all programmes to cost and quality targets (QCD)
  • To be responsible for the resolution and escalation of any QCD incompatibility
  • To manage and minute Commodity Team Reviews
  • To present status at Gateways and support Powertrain design reviews, AML Package Meetings & Powertrain PMT meetings.
  • To align and maintain up-to-date information from Programme team in the Commodity status
  • To be the main point of contact for HV battery pack operational issues and facilitate decision making
  • To enable cross-functional working with other R&D departments to define resolve operational issues and balance characteristics to achieve vehicle requirements for minimum cost
  • To be responsible for strategy integration across programmes (e.g. technical vs manufacturing vs purchasing)

In addition, the role will include the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate system and supplier comparison studies and evaluate RFQ responses to influence management decisions
  • Coordinate Mission Gateway objectives including Final Engineering Sign Off activities
  • Reporting out status – Commodity Strategy, input into Gateway report-outs, collating and presenting SEL responses
  • Coordinate Target Confirmation (financial/timing) – assess & correct. Recommend, solve & drive escalation
  • Aligning all timing plans inside the commodity and Create master project plan for the commodity
  • Ensure project master plan is aligned with Vehicle Integration & programme
  • Ensure commodity on budget for Capex and piece cost across programmes.
  • Support completion of Change Tracking Documents, Engineering Release Notices & Releases to allow engineering changes to be approved by the AML organisations.
  • Coordinate resolution of engineering Concerns (using eCMS) in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures DFMEAs and PFMEAs are completed on time, involving all stakeholders and included as part of FESO process.
  • Release tracking. Ensure ETRS alignment to VPP.  Effects as ‘internal programme delivery lead’.  Facilitate cross functional agreement of releases prior to submission. 
  • Ensure communicating of DVP Vehicle requirements to integration team
  • Track commodity DVP against plan
  • Coordinate the TDC ideas into Wave.
  • SOP/Launch/build support coordination via Commodity team
  • Tracking post development support / current car engineering (collect & distribute)
  • Support Intellectual Property (IP) team to protect AML generated IP
  • Train, coach and present technical information and share the knowledge throughout AML
  • Develop and record best practices and support development of design manuals to handle the Powertrain Electrification requirements of today and the future.

Qualification & Experience:

The essential areas of previous experience required to undertake this role include:

  • Leadership experience in project managing automotive OEM HV battery systems through to production
  • Knowledge of relevant vehicle legislation and certification requirements for HV automotive battery packs
  • Technical understanding of HV battery systems for hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Demonstrated experience in project managing cross-functional technical teams in automotive product development

Preferred areas of experience include:

  • Leadership experience in project managing automotive OEM HV battery systems through to production for high performance hybrid and/or electric vehicles
  • Understanding of hybrid and electric powertrain system functionalities and attributes at vehicle, system and component levels
  • Automotive HV powertrain electrical, electronic and mechanical integration knowledge
  • Understanding of Functional Safety, Cybersecurity and EMC requirements
  • Driving product development issues to a resolution
  • Experience with CAD and CAE
  • Engineering Degree in Electrical, Electronic and/or related field
