Job Purpose:

Assess the effect of dimensional variation of body and trim systems and components and optimise locators, tolerances and process designs to deliver the required whole-vehicle dimensional quality. Define and validate appropriate interface targets for all Interior and Exterior Design Surfaces to ensure DPQ attribute delivery and desensitisation to dimensional variation

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Responsible for the on-time completion of all DPQ attribute deliverables in line with programme timing and budgets.
  • Lead the definition of appropriate Optical Quality (OQ) targets (gap / flush / taper) aligned to programme DPQ attribute targets for all Interior and Exterior design surface interfaces.
  • Run cross-functional OQ meetings to identify and resolve all incompatibilities between DPQ targets and design surfaces, engineering CAD, locators, tolerances and/or manufacturing processes prior to the appropriate design checkpoint (CP).
  • Define and deliver plans for Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA) studies throughout the Virtual Series incorporating OQ target validation, DPQ feasibility assessment, measurement point definition and ad hoc study requests.
  • Conduct DVA studies and report out results including predicted variation, contributor analysis and ‘what-if’ studies
  • Coordinate the activities of other AML DVA engineers and external engineering partners.
  • Plan and conduct Dimensional PQ benchmarking activities.
  • Identify and implement improvements to Dimensional Control and PQ processes, tools and standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree educated
  • Proven experience of planning and delivering Dimensional Management and/or DVA activities from concept through to release of component and tooling designs
  • Defining and/or optimising locators for Automotive body-in-white or trim assembly processes
  • Working knowledge of GD&T – reviewing and interpreting tolerance information on component drawings and 3D CAD
  • Statistical analysis of measurement data to determine
