Along with the state of the art facility in St Athan, the IT team is there developing systems, providing support to all departments and enhancing all technology into the operational departments to ensure they can work to their development and deadlines, with the correct tools. Analysing the security of the products, the risks to the business and developing sound products to be in a cycle of continuous improvement.

 

Job Purpose

The Operations DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL & Oracle Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Role Purpose: -

  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Manage Oracle Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.

 

  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • ITIL Foundation is needed
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum of 5 years relevant experience preferred
  • Oracle Certification, preferably OCP - desirable
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.

 

 

Remuneration Package:

  • Negotiable base salary in line with experience (from £40,000)
  • Discount on our privilege lease scheme, either a Mercedes or Ford.
  • Contributory pension scheme – 3% matched for years 1 & 2, rising to double matched contributions from year 3 to a maximum employer contribution of 12%.
